Anyone Can Be a Poet!

September 20, 2019 Reflections from Changemakers 67

What does Bonner mean to you? What is it like to serve at your site? How does it feel to do this work and be part of this community?

Put on your creative hat and answer these questions with a poem. Not sure what type of poem you want to write (Sonnet, limerick, haiku, acrostic, etc.)? Check out this link for some help!

  1. Bonner is my Family
    But even family runs deep.

I’ve learned Mountain Mammas are stronger than any punch thrown in Lo’s Gym
I’ve seen the LAW family go to war for people they love.
I’ve learned that Blood is Red and Water is deep but it is
    COMPASSION that gets us ALL
    To
    The
    Finish Line

#breakup with your #bonner – they need Dr. Nate and a whole lot of sKATE-ing

    And pave the way

    To a better tomorrow

    Opening the glass doors
    of Castle Island Bilingual Montessori
I walk in, with my supervisor
right there to great us with
    a great big smile.

    Running through my head,
    a new day to continue
    studying our school for getting
    accredited, imagining the day
    when we receive the stamp
    of approval.

Mrs. Aviza’s sons are the best, no capping
I’m just learning the ropes about how all is done
but with this team I’m sure, it will be fun
From subbing to common app I’m sure you’ll succeed
because your Green Tech Men and your blood bleeds Green

    We are Bonners

  33. Lulama Nyembe says:

We have a charismatic leader who successfully and effortlessly manages much of the group’s activity.

We arrive early on campus for our annual 8-day indoctrination ceremony for new members.

We are often misunderstood because of our ‘with, not for’ mentality.

We share a love that is exclusively for members.

We spend most of our days surrounded by one another.

    We reflect almost excessively.

And when it’s almost over, we struggle to picture a life outside of each other.

    We are…

    Bonner Service Leaders!

  34. LILIANA SANCHEZ ADAMES says:

Bonner to me is like a family
That has taken me in no matter my nationality
We are all different in personalities
But at the end of the day we share the same qualities

    Some of us are loud
    Some of us don’t shout
But the bonner bond is strong
Each others differences is what we love the most

    B-love

  35. Jack McKenna says:

    Soul Food.

Release the ego and free the soul.
    We ALL deserve a bowl.

    People over profit.
It’s not like building a rocket.

    “Work harder”, they say
But without food there’s no way.

    “Pay more attention in school.”
But we need food for fuel, that’s the golden rule.

    No man above the rest.
We all deserve the best, I do protest.

When we see there is nothing to be gained from greed.
We can plant the seed, and learn to feed.

Release the ego and free the soul.

  36. Jamie del Rosario says:

    Buddies, anchors, mentors

    Bonners, bonners everywhere!
    Thinking about skipping service?
    Don’t you dare!

We are a family, some say B-LOVE,
    Always there for each other
    When push comes to shove.

In Albany, Troy, all the way to Cohoes,
    Our sites are not near
    But we’ll always remain close.

Wednesday night meetings are always so great,
    Friends everywhere at friday session,
    Academic support… don’t be late!

From Unity House on to RISSE,
It’s been tough to say my goodbyes.
    New experiences happening everyday,
I’m glad Katie is there for me every step of the way!

(Don’t ask me what kind of poem this is… I just made it rhyme)

  46. Abby Hoekman says:

    Service with a smile
    Winds of change always present
    United we stand
